of the

Bay County Genealogical Society of Michigan

The Bay County Genealogical Society (BCGS) was established on March 2, 1969 and registered their name with the Bay County Clerk on April 16, 1969.  The idea for the society grew out of a class on genealogy offered by the Essexville-Hampton Community Schools in the fall of 1968. The society soon started reading the headstones of the rural cemeteries in Bay County and transcribing marriage and death records. They published them in their quarterly journal which they named Chips and Ships and later the Clarion.
